the lily of the valley is a toxic plant

My friend Jean-baptist tell me one time
that the lily of the valley is a toxic plant
(he knows what he really says because
he is chemist). Unconvincing not?
I therefore think about  this question.
And definitely yes! This so nice plant is
toxic. All the plant is toxic, even the
water in which it stayed. How is it
possible?

The plant contains about twenty heart
toxins. The most abounding are the
convallarin, the convallamarin and
convallatoxin

The lily of the valley was used in the past to treat heart diseases but the margin between the efficient dose and the toxic dose is very weak. It’s therefore a plant that contain dangerous substances and it cannot be used as medicine

The ingestion of a big plant quantity (5 berries and the more, 2 leaves or 2 stems and more) requires hospital treatment

For a small quantities or vase water ingestion, ask for a definite risk valuation with Poisons unit doctor. Especially do not let children touch this plant.
