Materials

- Some leaves of climbing plants
(ivy, philodendron)
- A container
- a transparent glass

Process

1) Fill the container with lukewarm
water

2) Put leaves in the glass and fill
water in short - edge, should not
have air bells in the glass

3) When you  return you should see an air pocket in your glass, it is oxygen!

.

Explanation

To be able to live, leaf needs to fabricate its own sugar (glucose). In order to do that, it picks up solar energy with it’s chlorophyll.

It also produces oxygen (cool !). It is this oxygen that we recover in this experience.

The photosynthesis reaction is:

6CO2 + 12 H20 + lumière ----------> C6H12O6 + 6O2 + 6 H2O
                                   (soleil)                            (glucose)
